Dharna Continue – baton charged on Workers, Management did not reach in Labour Ministry for negotiation – Jang 2-9-2010:

On 2nd day of Dharna (September 1, 2010) Police  baton charged to disperse the protesting PTCL employees who had gathered at the PTCL head office Wednesday morning to press the management to accept their demands including pay raise.
The angry protestors, however, managed to enter the premises again when some more protestors and union leaders joined them. The protestors got angry when the PTCL management refused to meet their representatives at the ministry of manpower. The meeting was arranged by secretary manpower to sort out the issues. PTCL union leaders Hammad ul Hassan Qureshi, Malik Maqbool Hussain and Rana Muhammad Hassan reached the ministry for the meeting but no representative of the PTCL management showed up for two hours.
The PTCL management told The News the its representatives did go to the ministry of manpower, however, they neither met the union leaders nor were they bound to meet them. Ministry of Manpower, on the complaint of the PTCL workers, was to hear the case of employees’ salary raise and other related issues on Wednesday at its office.
A large number of PTCL workers remained in the premises of the head office till midnight and observed peaceful sit-in. Union leaders led this peaceful protest. They said the PTCL employees did not damage the property and remained peaceful yet the PTCL management used force against them.
