Capt. (Retd) Muhammad Safdar, MNA demanded payment of salaries to TIP employees

Islamabad (Tuesday, May 27th, 2014) – National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication on Monday expressed concern over the non-payment of salaries of the employees of the Telephone Industries of Pakistan (TIP), Haripur and directed to pay their salaries before the coming month of Ramazan.

The committee meeting, which met under the chairmanship of Capt. (Retd) Muhammad Safdar, MNA was informed that the contracts of 827 employees of TIP working on contract/daily wages had not been extended as per the government’s directives of February 6 this year, said a press release issued here. It was further informed that therefore, no salary had been paid to those employees whose contract had been expired.

The Committee expressed concern over the issue that contract of low paid employees were not extended and recommended that the management of TIP may move a summery regarding their adjustment in different government and private departments so that aggrieved families could survive.

The committee noted that the salaries of such employees may be released before the month of Ramazan and directed that the ministry may observe the possibility of Public-Private partnership with different electronic companies for the revival of TIP industry as it became useless after the privatization of PTCL.

Three different sub-committees were also constituted to visit Hazara to know the ground realities of health, education and civil departments of TIP.

During the meeting, the committee also discussed the private member bill on “The Telegraph (Amendment) Bill, 2014”.

After due discussion, the committee referred the Bill to the Law Division for legal opinion and deferred it till next meeting.

The Committee appreciated the efforts of Information Technology Ministry for making the Electronic Voting Machine with Bio-Metric System which would not only help to provide modern mechanism of voting but ensure the transparency during the upcoming election as well.
