International call rates – Shahnaz writes to News Post
Lahore (Friday, November 2, 2012) – Justice Ijaz-ul-Hasan of the Lahore High Court suspended the government’s decision of increasing the rates of incoming international call and directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to file a reply in the first week of November. The government didn’t ‘increase’ the calls rates; it actually robbed the overseas Pakistanis.
I say so because an increase can be of 5 percent, 10 percent or 25 percent but an increase of 100 percent to 400 percent plus is nothing but robbing. I live abroad and am presently visiting Karachi with my family. Previously, when I rang my family in Karachi from abroad, it cost me Rs24 per minute. Now it is costing me Rs. 55 per minutes.
As an overseas Pakistani and a taxpaying citizen, I request Justice Ijaz-ul-Hasan to ask the advocate general and the PTA authorities how much of the increased revenue will actually go into the government treasury.
