Ministry of IT & PTET fails to implement Federal Govt’s orders
The Ministry of Information Technology (IT) has miserably failed to implement federal government’s orders. According to the details, the federal government had announced increase of pension and Medical allowance in fiscal budget 2010-11.
The increase was from 15 % to 25 % in pension of all the pensioners retired under Government Scales. For the first time GOP introduced Medical Allowance for all the pensioners by 20 percent to 25 percent of their pension. All the departments/ divisions and Ministries have given these increase except Ministry of Information Technology, which has allegedly failed to do so even after a lapse of 9-months. specially, more than 39000 PT&T, T&T, PTC and PTCL pensioners have been lying deprived of this increase. The increase announced after 7-months was 8 % contrary to the 15 % announced by the Federal Government. Thousands of Widows, Orphans, sick and old retired people are still waiting for this increase announced by Federal Government indiscriminately. Pakistan Telecom Pensioners Trust (REGD) organized protests at different forum, demanding increase in pension and Medical Allowance as announced by the Federal Government. The participants chanted slogans against PTCL management holding placards in favour of their demands. Mazher Ahmed Mangi General Secretary of Pakistan Telecom Pensioners Trust (REGD) said that the PTCL has not paid their share to the PTET (Pakistan Telecom. Employees Trust) which is responsible for paying pensions to the retired employees. The protesters have appealed to the President, Prime Minister and Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of this discrimination and to solve this issue of more than 200000 family members of these 39000 pensioners. The National Assembly standing committee for IT in its meeting held on 4th May 2011 , directed to Secretary IT and PTET members to resolve pensioners issues as per notification of GOP dated 5th July 2010 and proposed amended laws framed by PTCL which are effecting adversely on the benefits and rights of pensioners may also be withdrawn and implementation be submitted in next meeting. The Prime Minister and Minister of IT are requested to direct PTET & PTCL Management for immediate implementation of the orders of National Assembly Standing Committee for IT instead of submission of lame and irrelevant excuses just to prolong the implementation on this justified issued under reference.
