PTCL Pensioners Protest in Peshawar – Daily English TheNews (November 26, 2010)

Pensioners (Retired Employees) of the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) on Thursday took out a protest rally to press the government to increase their medical allowance and pension.
Chanting slogans in favour of their demands, the retired employees who had come from all over the province asked the government to implement the recent decision about increase in medical allowance and pension. The participants of the rally marched from Khyber Bazaar to the PTCL offices. “Several months have passed but the authorities did not implement the decision about 15 per cent increase in pension and 25 per cent raise in medical allowance,” one of the protesters said.
They asked the rulers to step down if they were unable to give them relief in the face of skyrocketing inflation. The retired employees appealed to Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry to take suo moto action otherwise they would be left with no option but to launch a protest drive across the country.
