PTCL Retired Employees (Pensioners) Protest in Lahore : Jang & TheNews Reports (October 19, 2010):

Pensioners (Retired employees) of the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) on Monday staged a protest in front of the Lahore Press Club against the meagre raise in their pension. The pensioners chanted slogans against the PTCL administration and management and held placard inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands. They said the PTCL management had made a deal with the government and despite the governmentĂ­s orders, their pensions had not been increased which was blatant injustice as the PTCL employees too were government employees.

  1. Why the Etisalat or PTCL authorities not to bear increase in the pension as announced by the Government of Pakistan. All the retired pensioners of earstwhile T&T/PTC and PTCL are the civil servant and protected under the prevailing rules. If the Eitisalator existing PTCL Management not to bear pension increase announced in the budget 2010-2011, as to why the pension of last year was increased.

    Before standing committee on Information Technology of National Assembly, PTCL heigher authorities said that Govt: has no control over PTCL management after privarisation,and Etisalat is not ready to bear the burden of increase in pension.(Dawn Oct’21).Hafeez Sheikh,the then minister for privatisation is showing no intrest in committee’s proceeding and remains absent.
    Committee has issued final notice to Minister Hafeez Sheikh to be present in next meeting.
