PTCL seeks more investment in telecom sector: Abdullah Yousuf SEVP:
KARACHI (Wednesday, May 4, 2011) : Pakistan Telecommunications Company Ltd (PTCL) is planning to have further investments in Pakistan’s telecommunication sector. Senior Executive Vice President of PTCL, Abdullah Yousuf during a visit to Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) said PTCL was trying to introduce all telecommunications facilities to its subscribers as available to the UAE people. He said PTCL would introduce fastest Internet and broadband service for trade and industry. “Latest technology is being introduced by the PTCL which is not available anywhere in the region,” he said. He said the business community is PTCL’s first priority and very soon “a comprehensive and economical package for the businessmen will be launched,” he added. The Patron In-Chief of KATI, S M Muneer said if the public sector organisations were handed over to the private sector, the loss making units would be propped up. He said Pakistanis were getting telecommunications services—“even cheaper and better than Canada.” He demanded the government give priority to the industrial sector in the forthcoming budget and announce package for the industries’ revival. Former Chairman of KATI Mian Zahid Husain reiterated his demand to hand over public sector organisations such as PIA, Railways, Pakistan Steel, etc to the privates sector entrepreneurs in order to save Rs 500 billion instead of over-burdening the taxpayers with additional taxes.
