20th day PTCL Workers Strike : More Arrested – Arrested Leaders and workers shifted to Adyala Jail Rawalpindi – Protests and Strike continue through out Pakistan with new enthusiasm – Lala Hanif Joined protest in Islamabad:
On the week end (Saturday, 4 September, 2010) workers continue their struggle. They took out rallies. Police tortured and arrested them in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Unions Leaders and workers Malik Maqbool Hussain, Ammad ul Hassan Qureshi Hassan Muhammad Rana, who were arrested on last day shifted to Adyala Jail Rawalpindi using terrorist act.
PTCL workers are on strike for pay raise but PTCL management is not paying attention to their demands. Police have arrested 57 employees who staged protest and blocked the road in front of PTCL Headquarters in sector G-8. Police also tortured human right activist Farzana Bari who tried to stop arrests.
PTCL employees staged protest outside National Press Club on Saturday and police have registered a case under anti-terrorism act against 150 unidentified persons. The police claimed that the protesting employees opened fire on the police party injuring one policeman.
Till September 4, 2010 PTCL 2 Lacs and 32 thousands telephone lines waiting for repair. Beginning from16 August, 2010, Ongoing strike of the PTCL employees for the last one month has compelled the businessmen and industrialists to switch over to other wireless communication (phone and internet services) in order to stay in touch with their local and foreign buyers.Industrialists said the government seemed reluctant to play any role in resolving the conflict, which is hampering business activities. “PTCL is also losing both the revenue and its clientele”
Police Action on peaceful PTCL Workers at PTCL H/Q Islamabad: 11 hurts, dozens arrested:
On September 3, 2010 4th day of Dharna, 11 persons, including four policemen, were injured as a result of clash between police and angry employees of PTCL who are on strike for non-acceptance of their demands.
The police claimed that the protesting employees opened fire on the police party injuring one policeman. The police, in retaliation resorted to baton-charge and arrested 30 protesting employees after Iftar.

On September 2, 2010 in Multan Qazi Mehmood of Bahawalpur participated in the current strike in Multan. Others leaders were Ifthar Ahmad, Rasheed Malik, Haseeb uddin, Asghar.

On 2nd day of Dharna (September 1, 2010) Police baton charged to disperse the protesting PTCL employees who had gathered at the PTCL head office Wednesday morning to press the management to accept their demands including pay raise.
The angry protestors, however, managed to enter the premises again when some more protestors and union leaders joined them. The protestors got angry when the PTCL management refused to meet their representatives at the ministry of manpower. The meeting was arranged by secretary manpower to sort out the issues.

At the time of transformation of Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation “PTC” into PTCL in the year 1996, the terms and conditions of those employees which were transferred from PTC to PTCL were protected under Section 35 and 36(2) of the Pakistan Telecommunication (reorganization) Act, 1996. These transferred employees commonly known as “regular employees” in PTCL are treated as government employees.
On Tuesday August31, 2010, Ongoing tussle between the Workers Alliance and management of the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) further flared up after the Start of “Dharna” in PTCL H/Q and former announced to stage a sitin outside the PTCL headquarters while the management decided to take action against the protesters under the law.

On August 31, 2010 at 11:00 Hours PTCL Workers entered into PTCL Head Quarter Islamabad in protesting against PTCL Management. Earlier After failure of negotiation between Workers and Management, the leaders of Workers Ittihad belonging to all unions finally announced “DHARNA” They reject 30% increase in Pay.
The management reaffirms its commitment to uphold the best interest and welfare of its employees. In continuation to our circular dated 11th August 2010, we are pleased to announce following revisions in the salary increase of employees:
1. For the sake of uniformity, 50% of Initial Basic Pay is converted to 30% of Running Basic Pay for all non management regular and NCPG employees effective from 1st July 2010.
